Richard «Doc Spoons» Spooner first picked up a pair of sticks at 14 and has yet to put them down. Spoons, as he is generally known, has a deep and basic love for all things drums. A seasoned session player, Spoons has worked for a raft of artists, producers and organisations. A truly versatile musician, he is as at home pounding out straight rock rhythms as he is riding laid–back hip-hop boom-bap or shufflin’ blues grooves. “Bringin’ It All Back Home” will spotlight a variety of songs that have never been performed by Fankhauser or not in a very long time. It also Markes the beginning of the work for the next album scheduled to be released in fall of 2014.
In the past few years we both realized that musically we somewhat drifted apart from each other, and all the blind understanding and intuition we used to have that inspired us both so much started to fade. And we both started to miss that sorely. So we met just a few days ago, and as hard as it was for me, we talked about it, and drew the consequences. Our friendship is not coming to an end, but our musical partnership is. This separation is painful for both of us, and it will take a while to get over it. Like you said, it’s a chance for new opportunities for everybody involved. It is crucial to me, and I’m glad you also spoke of it, that my and our music remains authentic and true. I can’t and won’t bend you, nor are you ready to be bent. I admire you for that!
I am very happy to to still meet eye to eye with you as a dear and valued friend, and that the time we shared making music, which is so well documented, will remain very precious as a living memory.
P.S. You remember that pic? Bob Stroger took it in front of Muddy’s house in Chicago in July 2004
Thank you all very much for your support during all these years, and I’m looking forward to see you again
Yours truly Philipp
