DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK (Mix 2012)
This is a great story: While recording the album “Try My Love” the producer Dennis Walker asked Philipp if he would like to record a version of the song “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark”, made hugely popular by the Robert Cray Band back in 1988. Now, you must know that Dennis Walker originally wrote that song! What an honor! Philipp Fankhauser’s recording (and Dennis Walker’s production) of “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark” has given the song a brand new feel and it is far from simply being a Robert Cray cover, even though Jim Pugh from the Cray Band plays the Hammond B3 on it – just like he did then in 1988. Dennis was enchanted and wanted the track to be on the album. Almost 25 years later the story of the song continues! “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark (Mix 2012)” was just sent to all radios in Switzerland and will be the focus for the coming months. The song was re-mixed and re-mastered by Alan Mirikitani. It’s available on iTunes here

The renowned US concert agency Blue Mountain Artists in Charlotte, North Carolina, takes over Philipp Fankhauser’s world wide representation (excl. Switzerland). First shows are being scheduled and confirmed, among them the Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival in Annapolis, MD, USA on May 20th 2012.

The 3rd July 2011 marks the Montreux Jazz Festival´s “Welcome to the Chairman of the Board”. B.B. In December 2008, „Love Man Riding“ (2008, Sony Music) is awarded with gold for over 15’000 units sold in Switzerland. Now, barely two years later, sales have doubled. Philipp Fankhauser and his team will be awarded a platinum album at the end of December.

The song “Love Man Riding” receives an honorable mention in the 16th Billboard World Song Contest.
The jury of the “Billboard World Song Contest” writes to Fankhauser: “Thank you so much for entering the 16th Billboard World Song Contest. Your song qualified for a top finish in 1500. This is an impressive feat. With thousands of entries coming each year exemplifying top notch quality song writing there seems to be a trend promoting at ever increasing level of song writing. Thus the line between winning and not winning becomes harder to define. It is extremly difficult to make decisions when nearly everything is of exceptional quality and songwrtiting craftmanship.

Honestly, no band in that genre has convinced and touched me as much since the early days of Robert Cray.
Philipp is a quite exceptional performer, a husky, absolutely authentic singers, emotion and powerful at the same time. Particularly impressive, I found his way to communicate with the audience and play. As a guitarist he is also convinced. Especially his Grooves and riffs have reduced me very much.
