The hardest working Blues Band in Switzerland releases a live cd. Fankhauser recorded five live shows and has released the best of it. On drum and bass old fellas like Tosho Yakkatokuo and Richard Cousins, who paid his dues in the Robert Cray Band. They're one of the tightest rhythm sections of Switzerland. Or even in all of Europe?
Philipp has taken massive steps vocally and must not fear any comparisons anymore. His guitar playing is frugal but never simplistic. He's generating an optimum of feeling, and isn't even afraid of downhome country music (I'm so lonesome I could cry). Not blinders, but nothing but pure blues feeling is the program.
This is a scrapbook of a band that's on the road; original, strong and deeply felt. It being a low budget production, the sound is extremely clear and all around enjoyable! Even without the Swiss bonus it gets a 5 (out of 5). The cd is simply put a joy!
Bellinzona Blues Festival 2003
Philipp Fankhauser as the highlight!
With the Philipp Fankhauser Blues Band, who replaced Clarence Spady that evening, we experienced the highlight of the evening.
The tightest rhythm section of Switzerland, intensified by Hendrix on Hammond, laid down a rock solid foundation for Fankhauser's frugal but never simple guitar licks. He's matured vocally in the last few years and his charma, teamed up with his humour, made this concert a fine event.
