Talk to Me benefits from roomy production and punchy playing

Swiss guitarist and singer Philipp Fankhauser toured the States with Johnny Copeland in the 90s, but he's still known mostly in Europe -- he returned to Switzerland in 2000, a few years after Copeland's death. His new CD, Talk to Me (Memphis International), benefits from roomy production and punchy playing (the Memphis Horns are among the guest musicians), but neither can quite compensate for Fankhauser's flat-timbred, workmanlike vocals.
