30.01.03 / SUGAR BLUE

Thursday 30. January 2003 Bierhuebeli Music Hall, Bern

After the first edition of Fathers & Sons of the Blues with Louisiana Red, Philipp Fankhauser once again met a colorful personality of the Blues.

Grammy-Award winner and Blues harp virtuoso SUGAR BLUE was raised in the heart of Harlem, New York, on whose streets he started his astonishing musical career. 1975 he cut his first sides with Brownie McGhee and Roosevelt Sykes. After his move to Paris at the end of the seventies, he was invited by Mick Jagger to cut a few songs on the Stones albums "Some Girls", "Emotional Rescue" and "Tattoo You". Best known may be Blue's harp riff on "Miss You".

Since the Rolling Stones Sugar Blue has recorded with Stan Getz, Frank Zappa, Bob Dylan, Willie Dixon and many more. He also has a considerable amount of own albums under his belt.

The show at Bierhuebeli Music Hall was the only one in that particular constellation. Tosho Yakkatokuo, long standing member of the Checkerboard Blues Band, and arguably the "swingiest" drummer in Europe, and the truly legendary bassist Richard Cousins, original member of the Robert Cray Band and multiple Grammy-Award winner, formed, along with Philipp Fankhauser, the band to support this outstanding musician.
