Just in time for the 50th anniversary celebration of Rock 'n'Roll in the year 2004, the Blue Balls Festival in Lucerne present the show "The Sounds Of Memphis".
Memphis isn't "just" Rock'n'Roll - Memphis is Stax, Rhythm'n'Blues, B.B. King, Otis Redding, Carla Thomas, Rufus Thomas, Al Green, The Staple Singers, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ann Peebles, Hi-Lo Records...
Memphis has been a magnet to so many Blues & Soul musicians that came from the neighbouring State of Mississippi in search and hopes of more work and a better life. Memphis turned Mississippi Blues into "Southern Soul Blues", Elvis Presley once covered recordings by Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup, and the rest is, literally, history. So the little big city with the egyptian name on the shores of the Mississippi River has played a major role in the development of popular music.
This years opening session at the Blue Balls Festival in Lucerne is dedicated to the "Sounds of Memphis"!
Lucerne, Switzerland salutes Memphis, Tennessee!
